Case Study:
Guiding a Reforestation Innovator’s Rebrand and Growth
The Challenge
In response to the growing need for reforestation after wildfires and the grueling manual labor required to replant forests, Mast’s founders created a new model for rapid, scalable reforestation.
Following its Series A fundraise in mid-2021, Mast Reforestation sought a strategic communications and PR partner who could help articulate its complex business model and stacked benefits for forests, landowners, public forestry agencies, and carbon credit buyers.
Mast Reforestation had successfully shown the world how its utilization of drone technology could enhance and accelerate the climate and environmental benefits of reforestation and underscored the need to combine legacy reforestation practices with innovative solutions such as carbon financing and biomass burial. It needed guidance and support to demonstrate how its seed and seedling supplies, as well as its innovative carbon credit product, were adding new dimensions to the practice of forestry and the generation and sale of carbon credits.
The Solution
The Redwood team’s experience in the world of carbon credits and solid foundation of knowledge around wildfires, reforestation, and forest ecology made the firm stand out from the competition. Mast Reforestation appreciated and shared Redwood’s commitment to climate action, and early conversations between the two companies showed that Redwood could bring valuable knowledge, an in-depth understanding of the complex carbon market, and unique communications expertise to a potential collaboration.
Mast Reforestation hired Redwood to formalize messaging around its interconnected services and multifaceted brand. On the cusp of launching its pioneering, forward-looking carbon credit product, Mast Reforestation also asked Redwood to lead the development of messaging and marketing content that would simplify the many benefits of its credits for buyers.
As it grew and evolved, the company founded as DroneSeed that executed reseeding of burned forests with aerial drones shifted its focus to retooling outdated forestry supply chains to meet the challenges brought on by climate change-fueled forest fires. This shift coincided with a rebrand to Mast Reforestation, with Redwood providing strategic guidance, communications planning, and media relations before, during, and after the rebrand.
Redwood has provided Mast with a broad array of communications services for three years and counting.
